A Little Observation (Shabbat Eve, July 8th), six b&w archival pigment prints from scanned negatives by Zultan Kluger, 40x220 cm, 2019
The work consists of six photographs from the Israel state archives. A missing seventh press photo, taken on Shabat eve July 8, 2016 at Kibbutz Degania, and published on Kikar Hashabat news site, stands at its base.
Out of a web search, under the entries 'July 8' and 'Kibbutz', the names of six kibbutz were selected. All were photographed by Zoltan Kluger who came to Israel from Germany as a tourist in 1933 and soon became a central photographer who worked for the national institutions in Israel.
‘A little observation’ is an expression from Maimonides' first book, The Words of Logic, written in Arabic in the 12th century. This is also the name of an article written by A.D. Gordon, in 1921, a year before his death in Kibbutz Degania.
